The Minstrel's Prayer: A Look at Rhetoric in Cartel's Lyrics

So, this will be my first foray into looking at the connection between music and rhetoric. I’ve enjoyed pondering over this particular piece for the last couple of weeks, so I doubt this will be my last foray. This is not my academic writing, so it may not be as clean, crisp, and clear as some of my other pieces you may have read. That’s ok. Get in it, get messy, muddle through these lyrics with me. 

Canons of Rhetoric: Audience?

Below is a Prezi that I made from a paper I wrote arguing for the inclusion of audience as a canon of rhetoric. I argue for this inclusion because the audience of a piece informs the other canons so strongly. This was an informal project and some of the writing is not purely academic. :)

Conjunction, Junction What IS  Your Function?

And that has been the question, since even before the peppy cartoon gave voice and face to our persnickety little grammatical inquiry back in 1973. The conjunction, just like most elements in a language, is multifaceted and is tired of being pigeonholed! The conjunction is not limited to the sole purpose of connecting elements within a sentence, and is perfectly capable of beginning a sentence on its own.

I got published! How tremendously exciting! For a twenty-two year-old master's student, being told that your article is published is a pretty mountain-top experience!

The above is a link to a story about what current Donaghey Scholars are doing at my alma mater, UALR. One of the students mentioned in this blog, Nora, was in my Advanced Persuasive Writing class last spring. She is a doll, so friendly, polite, and blindingly intelligent. I sense that with her iron will, double major, and fluency in Arabic, French, and English, she will do incredible things in this world.

I think it's incredible to have such motivated, active youth at our university- not only in the Donaghey program, but in every single college. I am glad to be able to spend as much of my time as I do around people who are exciting about asking questions and finding answers.
